Best Stuff #1

You know it had to happen sometime this month so here we go. This is the first of my own personal lists of:

Best Stuff

( I'm not trying to sell anybody anything. just telling you what I like. These are not hyperlinks but clicking them will give you a bigger picture.)

Best All Time Favorite Novels and What I Learned From Them

1950's

Any of the Nancy Drews by Carolyn Keene (all of the Carolyn Keenes)
If you knock on enough walls, eventually you will find a secret compartment or passageway.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
It was okay that I called my Mom "Mummy", after all, Jo called her Mom "Marmee"

Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
Saying Fiddledeedee will get you laughed at in school and in the South girls had names like Pansy and Butterfly (read and not fully understood, while baby sitting at age 11 1/2)

1960's

The Williamsburg Series ...Yankee Stranger to Homing by Elswyth Thane
Even ghosts can be in love and sometimes writers used pseudonyms.

On the Beach by Neville Shute
In case of disaster, go to Australia.

Travels With Charley by John Steinbeck (still my favorite book)
Someday I'd travel with my dog but his name wouldn't be Charlie 'cause that's my Dad!

1970's

O'Henry ~ 100 Selected Stories by O'Henry
Don't be too sure you know what the ending will be.

Stranger in a Strange Land By Robert Heinlein
Don't be too sure you know what the ending will be.

1980's

Bid Time Return By Richard Matheson (alt. title Somewhere in Time)
Christopher Reeve was gorgeous and I wanted Jane Seymour's hair!

1990's

The Eight by Katherine Neville
Sometimes a book can make realize you are smarter than you thought.

The Amelia Peabody Series
and
The Vicki Bliss Series
by Elizabeth Peters

Women over 25 years old can be clever, witty, sexy and solve murders too!

2000's

The Small Window by Linda Tiegland Clark
It took some tough women to tame the West. While Linda is my friend, I met Hardluck first.

The Book Thief by Marcus Zukar
Books written for kids have changed dramatically since I was one.

2010

The Eight by Katherine Neville
See above, then understand I still think so.

Heat Wave By Richard Castle
The best tongue in cheek book ever written by a fictional hack writer!

See ya down the road,
Yarntangler

what a terric list of reading through the years...I did so love the Nacy Drew novels when I was younger and also Alfred Hitchcock....another of my favorites is Joann Fluke, she writes of mystery and includes delicious recipes....I am collecting them in binders now...I was lucky enough to get a signed copy of one of her books yesterday at Boarders... :) thanks for stopping by my blog...

Good blog...got me thinking about some of my favorites:
Heinlein, Peter Straub, Stephen King, Asimov, Dean Koontz. I also liked "The Eight" and "The Book Thief". Still have to read "Heat Wave".
