No, I'm Not Phoning One In!

Okay, Dad and Sage, I just want you to know that this one probably took more time than most of what I post, so no comments about trying to get out of blogging or lame efforts!

Actual Title........

The BEST Stuff That's Been Forwarded To Me This Week.
(my comments are typed in purple)

Useless information

There is an actual use for Useless Information. You might end up on Jeopardy someday and need an answer to the Final Jeopardy question. That's when these two facts could come in handy. Category -The Printed Word.

The symbol on the "pound" key (#) is called an octothorpe.

The dot over the letter 'i' is called a tittle.

Ever wish you had the number to the local radio station programed into your cell ohone when they ask the trivia question 2 minutes after your radio alarm goes off? Well, once you have this little known fact ingrained into your brain you'll go look up the number of that station fast.

Donald Duck's middle name is Fauntleroy.

"How do you do Miss Daisy,

my name is Donald Fauntleroy Duck."

For Word Game aficionados there is this gem.

There is a seven-letter word in the English language that contains ten words without rearranging any of its letters,
"therein": the, there, he, in, rein, her, here, ere, therein, herein.

Idle Moments

Ever find your self clicking into Fairyland on Facebook ,needing to collect more gold, and finding you still had 17 minutes before it's available at the bottom of the page? Well, for all my Fairyland friends here's a silly little game to while away those minutes. If you are not on Fairyland then you are welcome to use it to waste time when you are too tired to turn off the computer and go to bed, just click on it.

Looking Backwards and Forwards

And for all of you
over 30, who remember and especially those of you under 30 who can't imagine this, here's something I wish I had written because I've sure said it enough.

To Those of Us Born 1930 - 1979

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE
1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's,and 80's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who (may have) smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had baseball caps (or kerchiefs) not helmets on our heads. (my parents would have welcomed helmets if they'd been available when Scrabblebuff flipped over her handlebars and fractured her skull. Some innovations are very good.)

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes made with lard, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank FLAV-OR- AID made with real white sugar.(we picked blackberries and blueberries in the woods and strawberries on the hills most of which do not exist anymore)

And, we weren't overweight. WHY? Because we were always outside playing that's why! We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were OKAY. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride them down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem

We did not have Play stations, Nintendo' s and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms. (We did have a piece of plastic that attached to the TV screen by static cling it was striped blue red and green thus giving us "color TV")

WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them! We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We would get spankings with wooden spoons, switches, ping pong paddles, or just a bare hand and no one would call child services to report abuse.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever. (and the watermelon seeds did not produce vines or babies!)

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes. (We never had BB guns But Denis got a bow & arrow and target set one Christmas)

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them. (We called our friends parents Mr. And Mrs. and they really were.)

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law! ( and teachers!)

These generations have produced some of the BEST risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever. (Everyone of them learned how to read and write and do math and think without kindles and calculators and computers) The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all..

What happens next?

And as promised ladies it's pink and white striped! Not comfortable, but I didn't want to have to say white.

See ya down the road,
Yarntangler

Thanks for getting me hooked on the dumbest thing I've done yet on-line. I can't believe I spent the last hour and a half trying to get a bald, naked guy through a post-apocalyptic world on a bicycle that's too small for him.

Word of the day...sespla: a celebration similar to hoopla, but with ses instead of hoo. eg "It was a rather subdued New Year's Eve for us, marked by a moderate amount of sespla."
